CREATIVE APPROACH

Franco-Icelandic-Turkish visual artist Özden Dóra Clow works across textile and painting. The sea, landscapes, stories passed down through generations, and the connections we maintain with places are at the heart of her practice. She paints, embroiders, cuts and transforms surfaces to reveal traces, rhythms, colours and fragments of stories.

Her different cultural backgrounds come together naturally in her work. Gestures and craft traditions rooted in her Icelandic and Turkish heritage meet other traditions. These influences intertwine with a contemporary practice in which textile can become painting, and paper can become textile.

Her work develops through successive layers and transformations. Paint, thread, embroidery and cut-out surfaces bring forth forms that move between abstraction and landscape. The sea and coastal territories are increasingly central to her practice, explored through memory, displacement and a sense of attachment to place.
